Monday night’s episode of “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” found the family split up between two parts of the country. Kate Gosselin took her three sons to a Wyoming dude ranch, while her estranged hubby Jon stayed behind with their five daughters. Kate and the boys took part in such activities as horseback riding and hiking, and Kate did a little target practice, learning how to shoot a gun. After a horseback ride through the ranch, Kate commented of the wide-open Western landscape, “I really just thought I was signing up for a boys’ trip but this is seriously amazing. Wow. You see this stuff in books, and I’m here to tell you it really does exist, isn’t this just crazy? This really could make me cry actually.” The fact that no photographers followed them around Wyoming wasn’t lost on Kate, who commented that she was “totally paparazzi free for the first time in five months,” saying, “And that alone is worth everything in the world.” Jon, for his part, played scavenger hunt and dress-up with the girls, even donning a pink dress at his daughters’ request. After his time alone with his daughters, he commented on how his family is doing since news broke that he and his wife are divorcing. “I’m living in New York,” Jon said. “You know, I love being home with my kids but I also like being in New York where it’s quiet, and getting things done, and that’s where things happen.” “At home you’re taking care of nine people,” Jon went on to say. “It’s a lot of work, you know, and I’m starting to learn the balance and stuff like that, starting to get, like, the custody schedule down. And I think the kids are starting to understand it more and what’s going on and how mommy and daddy are working things out. I mean we will always be there for them, you know, just not at the same time.”
